International Youth Day is celebrated annually on 12 August. It is an opportunity for Terre des hommes Foundation to appreciate the young people who get voluntarily involved in projects dedicated to children. These young people have accepted the invitation to join a mentoring programme run by Terre des hommes Foundation Romania as part of the NOROC in Education project.
The young volunteers, who became mentors for pupils from Dolj, Olt, Gorj, Vâlcea and Bacău counties, shared their free time with their younger peers who needed their support. They participated with all their heart in the meetings with the children, offering them support through recreational and educational activities in the after-school programme. These counties have students in vulnerable situations, so the need for mentors was and continues to be a great need. Young mentors can play a vital role in children's lives, providing positive role models and helpful guidance to overcome the challenges they face.
International Youth Day is certainly a wonderful opportunity to appreciate their efforts and encourage other young people to get actively involved in their community and help where they are most needed.
