PRESS RELEASE

BUCHAREST, August 26, 2022. On The Independence Day of Ukraine, on Wednesday, August 24th, Romanian and Ukrainian children became friends and transformed the Garden of the University House in Bucharest into a land of peace and childhood, with games and small workshops of Movement, Game and Sport, music therapy, face painting, decorations.

Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh) organized the event dedicated to children "Friendship brings joy", to support the Ukrainian community in Bucharest, to create opportunities for connection with Romanians and, last but not least, an oasis of celebration for all. More than 300 participants, small and large, forgot about the war and worries during five hours at least.

The event celebrated the children's talent in music, drawing, dancing, handicrafts, so that hundreds of children enjoyed the appreciation throughout the day. Adult craftsmen from the Ukrainian community also presented their products and received donations, and the talent contest of children between 5 and 18 years old brought to the Garden the sound of beautiful songs in Ukrainian that children sang. Ten children and teenagers overcame their emotions and sang, danced, did magic tricks or artistic gymnastics on the stage.

Friends from the Parada Foundation, who presented circus activities, or Amurtel who brought creative activities with elements of yoga, also contributed to the event. The children also decorated cookies and bags with the help of Playouth. Terre des hommes thanks everyone. Also, a big thank you to general partner Unteatru, who donated the space in which the event unfolded, and to the Red Cross, who took care of the safety of the children.

The event is part of an extensive action of Terre des hommes to support Ukrainian refugee families in Romania. Since March, Terre des hommes Romania has been striving to respond to the immediate needs of children, young people and mothers arriving in Romania in terms of protection, mental health and psycho-social support, as well as tailored individual assistance. We are currently working with and for children in ten centers in Bucharest, we have created a Summer School and we are further expanding our activity, because all children have the right to a childhood.

Project implemented by Terre des hommes Romania with the financial support of the Crisis and Support Center of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, City of Zurich, Z Zurich Foundation, Swiss Solidarity and UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency).
