Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss child relief agency. Founded in 1960, we are committed to improving the lives of millions of the world's most vulnerable children. Through our innovative protection and health projects, we provide assistance to over three million children and their families in almost forty countries each year. In Europe, Tdh intervenes directly or indirectly in many countries, relying on teams based in Budapest, Albania, Greece, Kosovo, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.
To respond to the refugee crisis, Terre des hommes (Tdh) is deploying fixed and mobile teams to transit, reception, and refugee centers in Bucharest to provide essential child protection, psychological support, information and referral services to children, youth, mothers, and other vulnerable people who have been displaced from Ukraine. Tdh will also deliver capacity-building services to local service providers and community and volunteer groups on child protection, safeguarding, trafficking risks and similar needs. In addition, Tdh is planning to distribute kits (hygiene kits, dignity kits etc.) based on necessities to address immediate and basic needs.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Psychologist supports Tdh mental health and psychosocial support interventions (MHPSS) in all stages of case management activities for Unaccompanied Minors, assessment, planning, implementation, follow up and review, and closure of cases. They provide MHPSS technical advice, and also design and implement focused and non-focused PSS activities which respond to identified needs of the unaccompanied children that are crossing the border from Ukraine.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support with MHPSS needs assessments of the target population.
- Support efforts to map and identify external mental health and PSS services for referrals.
- Provides input into the design of relevant MHPSS response strategies and interventions to strengthen MHPSS service delivery.
- Keep social workers informed of relevant referral pathways for MHPSS cases.
- Support interventions to train and mentor caregivers, case workers and interpreters to run non-specialised PSS activities.
- Deliver individual and group PSS activities which address identified needs and incorporate appropriate mental health approaches for minors and adults affected by the crisis; including but not limited to psycho-education and mental health awareness.
- Ensure that activities are delivered in line with international human rights and Romanian Law.
- Ensure that activities are implemented in line Tdh’s Standard Operation Procedures and documentation requirements, adhere to the fundamental principles of Interagency Standing Committee MHPSS Guidelines (e.g. Do No Harm, Multi-layered supports, confidentiality & data protection, coordination)
- Support social workers during activities as requested (e.g. assessment, case planning, referral, follow up, case conferences, etc.).
- Accompany target population members to public services and external actors if required
YOUR PROFILE
- University degree in Psychology
- Minimum 2 years of experience in similar position in the field
- Previous experience in working with children
- Preferably experience of working in a large international organization; experience in NGOs or in social enterprises would be an asset
- Excellent communication skills; proficiency in spoken and written Romanian/ English or Russian /Ukrainian languages
- Flexibility, availability, and adaptability
